(Undated)– Don’t be surprised if you receive an emergency test message on your cell phone Wednesday.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency, in cooperation with the Federal Communications Commission, will conduct a national test of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, or IPAWS. Officials say that beginning at 1:20 pm Wednesday cell towers will broadcast the test for about 30 minutes. During that time, WEA-compatible wireless phones that are switched on, within range of an active cell tower and whose wireless provider participates in WEA, should receive the message. Officials say there is no imminent danger and that no action is needed.
They add this will be third national test and the second test to all wireless phones. The most recent test was conducted in 2018.
