National Weather Service Warning Of Potential For Impactful Conditions In Coming Days

March 12, 2026

(Undated)– The National Weather Service is giving a heads up as a variety of adverse weather will likely be impacting the region beginning later today (Thursday) and continuing all the way into early next week.

Forecasters are warning of a high fire danger that will be in place today (Thurs.) with a red flag warning in effect for much of the region, including the Iowa Great Lakes. They say a combination of dry vegetation, low relative humidity and wind will combine to create a high fire danger.

Later on tonight (Thurs.) and into Friday, attention will turn to a damaging wind potential. A high wind warning goes into effect at 9:00 pm this (Thurs.) evening for a good deal of the region. It will be in effect until 7:00 am Friday for winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 70 mph. The National Weather Service is warning of the possibility of power outages along with tree damage and perhaps even structural damage.

As if that’s not enough, forecasters are warning about the likelihood of a significant winter storm over the weekend, with heavy amounts of snow and blowing snow expected beginning Saturday night and continuing through Sunday night. Those with travel plans over the weekend should keep up to date with the latest forecasts and road conditions.
