“My Town” Episode Featuring The Iowa Lakes Corridor To Premier At Special Event Next Week

October 25, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– A special event will be held next week in the Iowa Great Lakes for the premier of an episode of from the “My Town” documentary series that highlights the Iowa Lakes Corridor region.

Alyssa Petersen, Coordinator of Administration and Communication for The Corridor, tells KUOO news the series was produced by Cory Hepola, an Emmy Award winning documentarian and journalist from the Twin Cities…

“He came and talked with Kerry Belgrave here in Spencer with Medlar Coffee and talked about starting a business here in Spencer. Kerry’s originally from Barbados, so why he moved here, why he decided to stay here in the Iowa Lakes Corridor region. And then he talks to Ofelia Rumbo down in Storm Lake at Merrill Manufacturing and she is the HR Manager there. She immigrated here from Mexico when she was in high school and ended going to school in Storm Lake, went to Buena Vista University, got her degree, and now gets to head up HR at one of our big manufacturers here in the Corridor region. Cory also talks with Lexi Ruter in Estherville about growing up here and why she decided to stay and why she promotes her community and the Iowa Lakes Corridor region as the Director of the Estherville Chamber and Estherville Area Growth Partnership.”

Petersen says they’ll be holding a special premier showing of the production Wednesday, October 30th with a special event from 4:00 until 5:30 pm at the Majestic Pavilion in Arnolds Park…

“We’re going to do a social time with a cash bar and free appetizers, and then we’re going to have a free video welcome from Cory, the director, just noting some of the things he learned about the Iowa Lakes Corridor, and then we’re going to roll right into our episode. This has only been shown once before at the Twin Cities Film Festival which the whole first season was accepted into. This past weekend a group of us from the Corridor were able to go see that. This is only going to be the second time it’s been shown, so it’s a nice time to see if early before it goes live streaming online. Afterwards we will have a panel of those individuals who were a part of this video and talk with them about their experience as well.”

The event is open to the public and is free of charge.
