The group’s mission is to give Veterans from all wars and conflicts the boost they need to become self-sufficient. Moving Veterans Forward President John Emsweiler explains what the group does.
“We collect furniture and household goods for veterans that are coming off the streets. We collect anything from furniture to pots and pans to dishes to silverware, wall hangings. Anything that you would use in your home on a daily basis and then what we do is we get referrals for veterans that are coming off the street or veterans that are getting placed in homes for whatever reason and they are able to come here and pick out their new furniture that they want for their new home and take it home at no cost to them.”
The group relies on donations to further their mission, and this four-person best ball golf tournament will help them achieve their goal. Emsweiler says they made a slight change to the tournament this year.
“This will be our 3rd annual golf tournament and this year we’re having 4 man teams instead of 2 man teams. We’re hoping to fit a few extra people in this year. We’ll have a shotgun start at 11 o’clock, registration is from 9 to 10:30. We’ll have plenty of door prizes and surprises for teams that register that day.”
The tournament will be this Saturday at the River Road Golf Club in Algona. All the funds raised from the golf tournament go to support Moving Veterans Forward of North Central Iowa. For more information on the group you can go to mvfnci.org
