(Emmetsburg)– Those getting caught disobeying signs in road construction zones had better be prepared to pay.
Proof in point: a construction zone on Highway 4 south of Emmetsburg. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says it received two complaints in as many days of motorists in that area speeding and not obeying a stop sign at the beginning of the road construction area.
Deputies say a Rolfe woman was issued a $335 citation Friday for running the stop sign. A Mallard man was issued $670 in citations for failing to stop at the same stop sign and failing to reduce his speed to a reasonable and proper rate in the construction zone.
Authorities say traffic violations in construction zones are not to be taken lightly, adding that if an accident occurs, someone could be seriously injured or killed. Most often, they say, the victim is a construction worker. Because of that, fines for traffic violations double in construction zones.
