(Spencer)– The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has released details into a motorcycle crash this past Saturday that seriously injured a Spencer man. Authorities say they were notified a little after 6:00 am that morning of a motorcycle crash on Highway 71 just south of Fostoria.

Deputies say 21-year-old Ryan Reineke of Spencer lost control of a 2008 Kawasaki as he was traveling northbound. The motorcycle left the road and went into the east ditch where it rolled, throwing Reineke off it. The motorcycle then split in two.

Reineke, who was wearing a helmet, sustained incapacitating injuries and was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital.

The motorcycle was totaled. Authorities say charges are pending.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a second collision occurred at the scene when the driver of a vehicle that was going through the location rear-ended another vehicle who had slowed upon entering the scene. Minor injuries were reported in that collision with both drivers denying medical assistance.

The Spencer Hospital Ambulance and paramedics, Spencer and Fostoria Fire Departments, Spencer Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol assisted on the scene.
