Motorcycle Crash Seriously Injures Minnesota Man

November 22, 2014

(Superior)– A motorcycle crash shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday north of Superior seriously injured a southern Minnesota man.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Vernon Handevidt of Trimont, Minnesota was driving a 2007 Yamaha northbound on 320th Avenue north of Superior when a deer ran into the roadway. Handevidt took evasive action to try to avoid colliding with the animal, causing him to lose control. Handevidt was ejected from the motorcycle. He landed on the pavement and skidded for several feet.

Handevidt was transported by ambulance with incapacitating injuries to Lakes Regional Healthcare and was transferred by helicopter to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Damage to the motorcycle was estimated at $5,000.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Spirit Lake ambulance, Superior Fire and Rescue and the Iowa State Patrol.
