November 03, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Des Moines)– The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, along with the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service have confirmed four more positive cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in the state. Officials say three of the infected farms are in Clay county; the other is in Hamilton county.

Three affected sites in Clay county are game bird duck farms, with one of the farms also containing a small backyard mixed species flock. The affected site in Hamilton county involves a flock of commercial breeding chickens.

In response, Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for Clay and Hamilton counties.

Bird flu cases were also confirmed recently in Buena Vista and Pocahontas counties of northwest Iowa.
