November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A Minnesota man faces several charges following an incident Sunday evening in Spirit Lake.

Police say an officer noticed a four-year-old child in the front passenger seat of a 1985 Toyota pickup parked at the Pronto station around 9:30 p.m. They say the child was not in a child restraint system as required by law.

Upon further investigation, the officer discovered the driver, 48-year-old Michael Smith of Windom, Minnesota, was allegedly intoxicated and found to be in possession of what’s alleged to be a controlled substance.

Smith was arrested and booked into the Dickinson county jail on charges of operating while intoxicated…first offense; possession of a controlled substance…marijuana; child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia.
