Milford Police Issue Reminder Of ATV/Golf Cart Usage

June 26, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– Milford police say they continue to see violations of ordinances pertaining to the operation of ATVs and golf carts. Police Chief Shilo Brevik says while it’s legal to operate a golf cart on city streets in Milford, they are NOT allowed on Highways 71 and 86 as well as County Road A-34, or 13th Street, and 28th Street. He says golf carts can only cross those roads. Permits for golf carts must also be obtained from the city. They can be operated from a half hour after sunrise until a half hour prior to sunset and must have a slow moving vehicle sign and bicycle safety flag. Golf carts cannot exceed 10 mph and must be insured.

When it comes to ATV’s, Brevik says it is illegal to operate them on Highway 71 in Milford except to cross at intersections. The driver must be at least 18-years-old. The machine must be insured and have the proper safety equipment installed. It is illegal to operate ATV’s on the trail system and they can only carry the number of passengers the machine is designed for. It is also illegal to operate ATV’s off-road in city parks and sidewalks.

PLEASE NOTE: A previous version of the story indicated the city of Milford issued stickers for golf carts. The city of Milford currently only issues permits for them.
