(Milford)– Officials with the city of Milford say they’re ready for the tens of thousands of RAGBRAI riders who will be making their way into the city on Sunday for the first overnight stop on this year’s route. Mayor Steve Anderson…
“We’ve already started some of the work. Prepping actually started taking place today. We’re starting to get a few things lined up and set in place so we can move it in easier. So yeah, we’re ready. Friday is when everything is going to start coming into play real heavily and then Saturday morning, we’re still looking for volunteers, but if somebody wants to come down and help out, 9:00 on Saturday morning we’re going to start really putting this place together and we’re going to meet at old city hall. We need people to help us put signs up and put barricades in right places and all those types of things.”
Anderson says they still have some volunteer opportunities available…
“Most of the beverage garden stuff is covered now. Right now there’s a real big push for the information booths. Those information booths are going to be pretty simple. We’ve got a manual, it has everything in it. We’ve got maps that will be outside, you’ll be able to provide tear-off maps for Milford itself. My understanding is that we’ll get maps for the ride the next day and some of the maps for things that are happening in Estherville as well. And then we have these little lanyards that have all the information you’re going to need. If people get a map they can scan it with their phone, those types of things. Information booths should be fairly simple for people especially if you live here in town because I think the majority of people are just going to say how do I get from here or how do we get from there, so.”
You can find more information and sign up at the RAGBRAI page on the city’s website.
Anderson adds RAGBRAI this year is donating a portion of its proceeds to the Honor Flight program. He says Milford will be recognizing that with a special event to greet riders when they come into town Sunday…
“At 2:00 the people who have been on Honor Flight, they’re asking them to show up, I believe it’s at the intersection of M and 15th Street, it would be on the back side of the Catholic Church baseball diamond and they’re asking those people when you go on the Honor Flight you always get a hat. They’re asking those people to wear that hat and then they’re going to go through and welcome people to Milford. Anybody who’s been on an Honor Flight that’s been in the area that’s around this area that wants to come and welcome those people. The best thing is that the contributions that RAGBRAI’s going to give to the Honor Flights for veterans to be able to go out to Washington, D.C. and get to go on that pretty impressive flight, so.”
Anderson says anyone who would like to help with set up Saturday morning should meet at the old city hall at 9:00 am.
