(Milford)– A recent surge in interest among developers looking to construct campgrounds and R-V parks in the Iowa Great Lakes has another city looking at tightening restrictions on them. The Milford City Council Monday directed that city’s Planning and Zoning Commission to do just that. Mayor Steve Anderson says they specifically want to better define bulk density regulations…
“How many RV’s can you have per an acre or have a square footage requirement for how many RV’s you can have on an RV site, campground; trying to separate campgrounds and RV parks because they’re, right now most of the zoning, it’s one thing, and this would help separate it and define it a little bit better; and then just look at some of the classifications: where are they allowed, where are they not allowed, those types of things, and maybe look at some setback regulations and what we can do so. The P & Z will be meeting next week and councilman Yungbluth put a 60 day requirement on it to get that done and so hopefully we can do this pretty quick and then we don’t get caught in anything, so.”
Anderson says his personal preference would be for the city to put a moratorium on any new R-V or campground projects…
“Legal counsel is telling us not to do that but I just get worried that sometimes these things get drug out and so it could be 12 months before we get a decision and so to counter that with the 60 day requirement to get it done, there will probably be some special meetings of the Planning and Zoning Board that will help speed it up, and that relieves some of my concern is that we’ve got a timeline. We need to get it done and just as hot as it is with people wanting to put RV parks in all over the place I just don’t want to get caught in a situation there, so.”
The city’s Planning and Zoning Administrator will start gathering information for the commission to review at a meeting scheduled for this coming Monday, July 18th.
