(Milford)– This spring and summer will likely see a lot of road construction in Milford. Mayor Steve Anderson says one of those projects involves some work on 9th Street between N Avenue and Highway 71…
“There’s minimal storm drainage in there and we’ve had multiple issues in front of the library. People coming to the library will see the concrete is eaten away. When the building was put up the downspouts and the drainage aren’t quite right at the sidewalk so it’s causing ice issues, so of course, we put some sand and salt on there which has eaten that sidewalk away so. The 9th Street improvement will extend the storm sewers out so we can get that drainage down, make all of the sidewalk areas ADA compliant, and just re-surface that whole section of road and replace some of the other infrastructure that’s there.”
Anderson says that work won’t start until after Pioneer Days.
Another major project on the schedule for this spring and summer in Milford is 13th Street from the Catholic Church to the west city limits…
“The 13th street project, because of the funds that we got to go towards that project was bid on by the Iowa Department of Transportation. The bids, the engineer’s estimate was $6.2 million to do all of it. The low bid was $6.7 million and only two bids were taken. The second bid was $7.8 million. The council, the engineers, are still doing there evaluation of those and then it will come to the council so that they can make a final awarding of the bid if that’s what we’re going to do, so.”
That project has a late start date of April 15th with substantial completion scheduled for this coming November.
