Milford, Fostoria Firefighters Battle Grain Bin Blaze

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– Milford and Fostoria firefighters spent the better part of their day Sunday battling a grain bin fire.

Milford Fire Chief Jim Carpenter says they were called around 1:30 p.m. to 2571 260th Street, or County Road A-43 south of Milford. Upon arriving, Carpenter says owners of the grain were emptying it into wagons, trying to get to the grain that was burning at the bottom.

Carpenter estimates 750 to a thousand bushels of corn was damaged.

Firefighters were on the scene six and-a-half hours.

No injuries were reported, but one firefighter was taken to the hospital for observation.

The Terril ambulance stood by on the scene and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control.

Carpenter says the cause was a malfunction in the stirator unit of the bin.
