The Milford Fire Department was paged for a field fire shortly before 1 pm Friday afternoon.
Officials say the fire was a half mile west of the intersection of 180th St. and 170th Ave. in Lakeville Township. The blaze was in a field of corn stubble and moving toward a picked bean field and some standing corn to the south and east.
The Lake Park Fire Department was called for mutual aid, and two area farmers arrived with tractors and disks to assist the crews. The fire covered approximately 20 acres, and firefighters were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
Milford Fird Chief Jim Carpenter is reminding area residents to remember that it is very dry, and to be careful with any fires. He also notes that farmers may want to have something available to control a fire should one start during field work.
