(Milford)– The Milford City Council Monday evening reviewed the findings of the first phase of a study into the city’s airport. Chris Stein of the Milford Airport Commission says this phase addresses the viability of the current facility…
Stein says the study also shows combining the Spirit Lake and Milford airports would be highly sustainable…
Stein says whether or not the study will proceed to the next phase, which would focus on the economics of a new airport, isn’t known yet…
The study was initiated when a group called Spirit Of Okoboji, led by businessman Tim Kinnetz, came forward with an offer to purchase the Milford Airport to accommodate plans for an indoor athletic facility and other amenities. Mayor Steve Anderson says the study will still be useful, even if that group should have a change in plans…
It isn’t known when a decision may be made as to whether or not to proceed with the second phase of the study.
Anderson says keeping crop dusting services affordable for farmers and emergency medical transports to larger hospitals make having an airport in the lakes area vital.
