(Milford)– The Milford City Council Monday evening held a work session to further discuss Highway 71 through the city and the possibility of reducing the road from four lanes to three. They reviewed information presented by Jennifer McCoy, a Senior Traffic Engineer with the Bolton and Menk Engineering firm. McCoy says her findings are similar to those in the TEAP study, with a number of advantages to switching to a three-lane road…
McCoy says the city council could make a final decision on whether or not to proceed with a four lane to three lane conversion late next month…
She adds there’s a growing trend among communities to downsize four lane highways to three…
Several conversions have taken place in recent years in northwest Iowa, including a portion of Highway 71 on the south side of Arnolds Park; Highway 9 through Estherville and Highways 71 and 18 on the south side of Spencer.
