(Milford)– The Milford City Council Monday evening awarded a bid for the construction of a new public works facility. It followed a public hearing that drew no written or oral comment. Mayor Steve Anderson says the new facility has been in the talking stages for at least a couple of years already…
“We’re looking at putting up a new shop. It’s going to be around $3.2 million. That includes putting in new streets, putting in a new generator that will be shared between the public works and the fire department. There’s going to be some sewer work done there. We’re going to be moving some buildings around and getting rid of the old Die Cast building that’s been sitting there for awhile. So that’s kind of the larger scope of the project and it should get started this summer.”
Anderson says the existing facility has become deficient…
“We’re trying to heat that building. There’s insulation in it but it’s generally not enough insulation. For instance the toilet that they’ve got, they have to keep a space heater next to the toilet during the winter because the toilet freezes if you don’t have a space heater right next to it. The steel sheeting is rusting pretty bad, so just lots of little things that are going on with that building. So that’s why we’re trying to get them into a facility that they can work in and operate efficiently.”
While the price is coming in higher than expected, a couple of council members said they feel it’s important to move ahead now out of concern the price could climb even more if they were to delay it.
