MidAmerica Officials Outline Plan To Upgrade Transmission Line

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)—MidAmerica Energy plans to upgrade a major transmission line traversing portions of O’Brien, Clay, Palo Alto, Kossuth, Humboldt and Webster counties.

Plans call for the project, known as “MVP3”, to begin on the west side of Sanborn. The project will then proceed 74 miles east to Burt, where it will drop south to Fort Dodge.

Construction is tentatively scheduled to start in November 2014 once siting and right-of-way acquisition has been completed. Plans call for the new line to be operational by the end of 2016.

Existing poles will be replaced with steel ones.

A meeting with property owners along the route was held yesterday (Wed.) in Spencer.

Mid American officials say the project will help the utility improve its reliability, will help it meet increased demand, and will increase its capacity for transmission of wind generated electricity.
