(Sioux City)– A man has pled guilty to illegally re-entering the United States from Mexico.
37-year-old Jose Catelan-Mejia of Mexico entered the plea to one count of illegal re-entry last week in U.S. District Court in Sioux City.
At the plea hearing, Castelan-Mejia admitted he was an illegal alien from Mexico present in the U.S. without permission. He had been previously removed on June 19th, 2009. In September of 2010, Castelan-Mejia was arrested by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of identity theft.
Sentencing will be set once a pre-sentence report has been completed. Castelan-Mejia remains in the custody of a U.S. Marshal in the meantime.
He faces up to two years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine; a $100 special assessment and up to a year of supervised release.
