(Spencer)– Spencer Mayor Steve Bomgaars was among those addressing a community meeting Tuesday evening into the flood this past June that ravaged that community. He addressed the steps the city is taking to help warn residents during similar events in the future…
Bomgaars says the city will also be utilizing tools available through the Iowa Flood Center that they didn’t know were available until now.
Interim City Manager Kevin Robinson told the crowd the city is working in tandem with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Iowa Homeland Security on mitigation plans for any similar events in the future.
City officials say they’re also working on an app that would push various warnings and notifications to Spencer residents. The Manager of the National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls was also at Tuesday evening’s meeting. He emphasized the importance of having a NOAA weather radio in your home.
