(Okoboji) – A Marion, Iowa woman is the winner of the $1000 prize in the annual Spirit Lake Sunrise Kiwanis Car Drop contest. Paula Schwers came closest to guessing the time that the car would drop through the ice at Smith’s Bay on West Lake Okoboji.
The Sunrise Kiwanis Club holds the unique fundraiser each year. Participants pick a time that the car will drop, and the closest guess wins the $1000 prize.
The car fell through the ice on Thursday, April 4 at 1:51 am.
The Arnold’s Park and Okoboji Underwater Search and Rescue Team braved the icy waters of West Lake Okoboji Saturday morning to retrieve the car. Search and Rescue divers were assisted by Bob’s Tow and Repair in the recovery.
