August 30, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Emmetsburg)– A man accused of stealing an ATM from a bank in Ledyard is now facing charges in Palo Alto county where he’s accused of stealing a pickup and trailer from a boat ramp at Lost Island Lake on August 13th. The trailer was located the following day in a farm drive near Lost Island Lake.

On the following Wednesday, August 17th, the stolen pickup and male suspect were seen at a convenience store in Graettinger. The suspect put gas in the vehicle and took off without paying. The stolen pickup was spotted on August 18th in surveillance video at the bank in Ledyard. Meanwhile authorities in Winnebago county were investigating some checks that had been stolen. The same suspect was later seen in surveillance video at a Wal-Mart store in Mankato trying to cash the checks.

A cooperative investigation among various law enforcement agencies identified the suspect as 25-year-old Jacob Govern of Ledyard. He was located in the stolen pickup on Friday, August 19th, in a parking lot in Fairmont where he was taken into custody.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office has issued arrest warrants for Govern charging him with 1st degree theft, 5th degree theft and driving while barred. Govern is currently being held on charges in Minnesota pending extradition to Iowa.
