(Mallard)– A collision Monday at the intersection of Highway Four and Palo Alto County Road B-63 in Mallard sent one person to the hospital.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says Darwin Goodchild of Spencer was driving a 2006 Ford Rander and had stopped at a stop sign.
Authorities say Heather Howard of Mallard was driving a 2001 Nissan and was following a semi northbound on Highway Four. As Howard and the semi approached the intersection, deputies say the semi turned off onto the county road headed east. Goodchild apparently didn’t see that Howard had been following the semi and pulled into the roadway, striking the Howard vehicle.
Howard was transported by ambulance to Palo Alto County Hospital and was treated for minor injuries.
Goodchild and a passenger in his vehicle, Ruth Goodchild, were checked on the scene by medical personnel and released.
No other injuries were reported.
Darwin Goodchild was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.
Damage to Goodchild’s vehicle was estimated at five thousand dollars; Howard’s vehicle was totalled.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Mallard First Responders, Mallard Fire Department and Rescue and the Palo Alto County Ambulance Crew.
The collision took place shortly before 2:00 p.m.
