LRH Celebrating National EMS Week With An Open House

May 22, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– This week marks the 49th annual observance of National EMS Week. Lakes Regional Healthcare is commemorating it by hosting an EMS Open House Wednesday, May 24th, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Chris Yungbluth is the Ambulance Supervisor at LRH. He says the event will be taking place in the ambulance garage and west parking lot at Lakes Regional Healthcare…

“In celebration of EMS Week where we take a moment and show some appreciation for all of those providers that are out there, either volunteers or paid in Dickinson county, we decided to host an open house so folks can come out and tour the ambulance and see our new ATV unit that we just recently purchased with donations. And then we hope to have some informational booths and some things for the kids to do. I know we have the fire safety bounce house and we’re hoping to have a helicopter on the helipad as long as they’re not called out to transport somebody. So there should be a lot of interesting things to look at hopefully and we’ve got a couple of hours from 5:00 until 7:00 on Wednesday. We’d like to have folks come out and take a look at that.”

Yungbluth says it’s a great way to get know emergency service providers outside of what normally would be a stressful situation…

“Most people don’t see us unless they’re having their worse day and then a lot of times they don’t actually get to see us, you know, because they’re dealing with their health issue or what not and this gives folks an opportunity to come out and talk to us a little bit, maybe ask questions that they may not have an opportunity to when they’re in their health crisis, or just to, hopefully maybe they’ve never had to have us out to see them on a bad day, and so they can come out and talk to us and see the equipment and see the services that are provided.”

The open house Wednesday evening is free of charge.
