Longtime Director Of Spirit Lake Public Library Is Stepping Down

December 10, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The longtime Director of the Spirit Lake Public Library is stepping down. Cynthia Davis is retiring at the end of this year after 13 years at the helm. She reflects back on some of the highlights over those years…

“2017 we did the big remodel so that was exciting and we’ve loved that and it’s still enjoyed today and everything is working, so that’s been good. Covid was an eye opener. That change library service in a couple of different ways and that’s been, we’re coming back from that and coming back strong, so that’s been good. My husband and my son and I have a farming operation down near Sioux City so I will be going down there to join them when I retire and helping with the grand babies and all that stuff, so I’m looking forward to that.”

Davis adds there’s a lot about working in the library she’s going to miss…

“I love working with people. I love to make book recommendations and I just love seeing what they’re coming in for and what they’re interested in. We get asked to do quite a bit of research and I’ve always enjoyed the research. I love our digitized newspapers here. It’s fun to go back and look at an article from 1930 or something like that when people are looking for information on a family member and that type of thing, so.”

Davis’ last day on the job is December 31st. Her successor, meanwhile is coming from Nebraska. Amy Dissmeyer has been Director of the Public Library in Hastings, Nebraska since January, 2009. She begins her new job in Spirit Lake the first of the year.
