Lodging Tax Figures Continued To Grow In Dickinson County From FY 2014 To FY 2024

November 12, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson county continued to see a significant increase in hotel-motel tax revenue from fiscal year 2014 to fiscal year 2024. Kiley Zankowski of Okoboji Tourism included the information in the agency’s annual report…

“In 2024 the county collected just over $50,000 in hotel-motel tax. This year, $365,881 in hotel-motel tax was collected by the county alone. That does not include the other municipalities. Our county as a whole with the municipalities included was right around two million dollars in hotel-motel tax.”

Zankowski says they’re requesting the county increase the amount Okoboji Tourism receives to $90,000 for the upcoming fiscal year…

“That would help us again expand our marketing to year around and really help us help our community. We, for the most part, are a free resource for our businesses and our hope is that we can entice people in so that our businesses don’t have to worry about that strain of marketing. We can bring people here for them and support our local economy and entice people to come in and want to live and work here as well.”

The supervisors took no action on the matter at their meeting today (Tues.). They’ll consider it during upcoming budget deliberations.
