Local Trail Projects Awarded Funding

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Some trails projects are being awarded funding through the federal government’s stimulus program. One of them is in our area.

The Iowa Transportation Commission today (Tues.) approved five million dollars for the projects. The funding is coming from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, or ARRA. It’s in addition to slightly more than 7.1 million dollars in ARRA funds programmed by Iowa’s nine metropolitan planning organizations and 18 regional planning affiliations for transportation enhancement projects.

Locally, the Dickinson County Conservation Board was awarded 186,365-dollars to resurface and rehabilitate the original spine trail and Poyzer Trail on the east side of Big Spirit Lake.
