(Spirit Lake)—A Terril woman who’s a student in the Associate Degree of Nursing program at Iowa Lakes Community College has been awarded a $3,000 scholarship through the Iowa Hospital Education and Research Foundation.
JoAnn Rouse, who’s also an employee of Lakes Regional Healthcare, is among 33 outstanding students from throughout the state that have received assistance this year through the foundation’s Health Care Careers Scholarship program.
The program was established by Iowa hospitals in 2004 to help address the ongoing shortage of health care professionals and to encourage young Iowans to stay in the state as they establish their careers. In exchange, scholarship-receiving students agree to work one year at an Iowa hospital for each year they receive an award.
