Local Lawmaker Vows To Fight Proposed Closure Of Local Workforce Development Offices

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– A local lawmaker says he’ll fight any attempt to close some local Workforce Development Offices.

State Representative John Wittneben of Estherville says he’ll fight any proposal that would shut down Iowa Workforce Development Offices in Estherville, Emmetsburg and Algona.

Governor Terry Branstad announced last week plans to revamp Iowa Workforce Development as part of his plans to reign in the state’s budget.

The offices in Emmetsburg, Estherville and Algona are among 39 in the state that would be shut down as a result.

In a news release, Wittneben says closing the offices would cripple effects of local businesses that use the centers to find skilled workers and that it would eliminate job development and placement assistance for dislocated workers in the region.
