(Des Moines)– A big step up for a local lawmaker.
It was announced Tuesday afternoon State Representative Jeff Smith of Okoboji has been elected by his caucus as a House Assistant Majority Leader.
Smith will work with the leadership team to set the agenda for the House Republican Caucus. He’ll work directly with the Majority Leader and leadership team, relaying information to fellow representatives, while also serving as a point-person on key legislative issues.
Smith is the only member of the leadership team for northwest Iowa. He was first elected to the Iowa House in 2010.
Smith joins House Assistant Majority Leaders Representatives Dave Deyoe of Nevada, Renee Schulte of Cedar Rapids, Matt Windschitl of Missouri Valley and Walt Rogers of Cedar Falls.
