(Des Moines)– Two local projects have been awarded Empower Rural Iowa Grants through the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
Spencer is among six communities that will receive $50,000 each for housing projects. The funds for Spencer will allow Northwest Iowa Corridor Habitat for Humanity to add storm-ready garages and carports, including safe rooms and backup power, to modular homes being built by inmates at the Newton Correctional facility.
Lake Park is among three cities, each being awarded $20,000, for rural childcare planning. The cities will work with the national nonprofit First Children’s Finance to analyze local data and identify solutions to meet specific childcare needs.
