(Des Moines)– Some local airports have been awarded funding through the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Fiscal Year 2026 Aviation Program. D.O.T Commissioners Tuesday approved $6.7 million in funding through the Airport Improvement program for projects at 25 airports around the state.
Locally, the Estherville Airport will be getting $399,000 for some turf work at a parallel taxiway. The project has a total cost of $570,000. The Milford Airport was awarded $44,528 to remove and trim trees. The project has a total cost of $55,600. The Sheldon Airport will get $17,000 to go toward a $20,000 project to develop a zoning ordinance; Sibley is getting $48,000 toward $60,000 in runway pavement repairs. The Spencer Airport was awarded $165,928 to construct hangar approaches. The project has a total price tag of $207,410. And the Spirit Lake Airport is receiving $48,800 to mitigate some obstructions. The project has a total cost of $61,000.
