Law enforcement will be “stepping up” traffic patrols across the state for the latest Special Traffic Enforcement Program, or sTEP, wave.
The effort runs March 14-17, 2013 for the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Enforcement agencies from around the area and the state will be out in force looking for motorists who may be violating traffic laws during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
The sTEP program consists of five high-visibility enforcement waves throughout the year which are designed to encourage motorists to buckle up, slow down, drive sober and obey all traffic laws in order to reduce the number of traffic accidents and fatalities.
Law enforcement officials add that they will be looking at window tint on vehicles. Iowa law states that the windshild and two front windows need to allow 70 percent of available light through them.
Last year’s sTEP wave during St. Patrick’s weekend resulted in more than 16,000 traffic violations issued across the state.
