(Des Moines)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the state’s pheasant population is the highest it’s been in decades. The August 2025 roadside survey shows that Iowa’s pheasant population surpassed one thousand pheasant broods statewide. That figure is the highest pheasant population in Iowa in the past 20 years.
Officials say hunters could bag up to 600-thousand and 700-thousand birds during the 100th anniversary of pheasant hunting season in Iowa.
This season will start on October 25th for residents aged 16 or older and last through January 10th.
