(Arnolds Park)– A contest that’s been popular in the past with Walleye Weekend in the Iowa Great Lakes is coming back for this year’s 42nd annual event. The Biggest Walleye Contest is making a return after a very successful run last year. Kiley Zankowski of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says it will once again involve the use of an app on your phone…
”The app is called Fish Donkey. It’s a free app to download and it’s an additional $20 registration to get you entered into this tournament. You take pictures of the fish that you catch and you measure them then you get entered into a pot of extra cash that you could win over the weekend if you catch one of the top three largest walleye.”
She expects there will be a lot of interest in the Biggest Walleye Contest again this year…
“And there’s actually a live leaderboard, too, so you can follow along with what people are catching the entire weekend. It’s a ton of fun.”
And as far as Walleye Weekend itself is concerned, Zankowski says the clock is ticking to get registered…
”We’ve got about a month left for registration, so if you haven’t registered yet either register online or stop at one of those local baitshops. You can get signed up for the adult. Don’t forget we also have a youth registration, and, of course, you’ll want to sign up for the extended contest. You can fish all summer long. Of course we’ve got that $42,000 grand prize on the line and we always want to remind people that a portion of the proceeds goes back to the community, the angling community, specifically. So it’s really cool. We were able to give $20,000 back last year for different projects in the area and we’re looking forward to doing that again this year.”
Walleye Weekend gets underway at 12:01 A.M. Saturday, May 4th.
