(Milford)– A crowd of several hundred people heard and viewed plans Wednesday evening for a proposed residential, entertainment, and athletic venue being proposed for the northwest side of Milford. As we reported previously, a group called Spirit of Okoboji is proposing the project, known as “Milford Campus”. The group’s President, Tim Kinnetz, says he was very pleased by the large turnout and the interest that’s been expressed so far. But he says a lot needs to happen yet before the multi-million dollar project can become a reality. And even then, Kinnetz says any construction would still be at least two years out once they would get the green light to proceed…
Kinnetz Wednesday evening publicly committed $10 million toward the proposed project. He says a total estimated cost of the overall project hasn’t been arrived at just yet.
What’s being dubbed as a sports destination venue, consisting of indoor athletic facilities, would be a major component of the development. The findings of an extensive feasibility study conducted by a firm called Sports Facility Companies, was also presented as a part of Wednesday evening’s meeting. Asked about any possible conflict or redundancy with programs offered by the Bedell Family YMCA, Kinnetz says they’re having discussions with that organization’s board of directors on possible areas of collaboration.
