Land Owners, Council Members Express Concern Over Lack Of Action On Proposed Golf Course Development

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– There’s growing concern over delays in getting the Iowa Great Lakes Golf Resort off the ground.

The proposed development on the southwest side of Spirit Lake is to include a retail, residential area and golf course.

But a lack of progress in getting the development off the ground is starting to frustrate some land owners and city officials.

While it wasn’t on the agenda, the issue surfaced during the public comment period of Tuesday’s city council meeting. Some people who own land on the site of the proposed development told the council they want the city to revert on some previous re-zoning and annexation agreements on the land. They say some purchase agreements the developers had on the land reportedly expired some 90 days ago and that there reportedly have been no new talks.

Several council members expressed their concern over a lack of information on the status of the proposed development. Regarding that issue, it was the concensus of council members for a meeting to be held between city officials, developers and land owners so everyone is aware of just what the status is of the proposed development.

Construction on the proposed development was supposed to start next year.
