Land Donors To Be Recognized

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– Members of a family that donated 310 acres of land in Dickinson county to the state for conservation efforts will be recognized in a ceremony next month at the State Capitol in Des Moines.

The Wallace Family Trust donated the land to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources at what DNR officials say was a “bargain price”. The land is valued at about $100,000.

Plans call for 236 acres of the land, located near the Little Sioux River, to be restored to native prairie; 15 acres will become grass pasture; 12 acres will be converted to marshes or wetlands; and 40 acres will contain restored wetlands.

DNR officials say the project will help improve and protect the watershed of the Little Sioux River.

A special ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. April 4th at the State Capitol paying tribute to the family and other donors associated with 33 donations of land or land value statewide. All total, DNR officials say nearly 4,300 acres of land with a value approaching 8 million dollars will be represented at the ceremony.
