(Okoboji)-Tuesday’s Lakeside Lab Speaker Series will feature a talk on new technology. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Friends of Lakeside Lab Speaker Series will continue on Tuesday evening with a talk by Lori Eich who will speak about new technology and her new company, HydroKinetX. “Wave energy converters, there’s a historic design to those, as well. They’re kind of meant for larger scale, grid scale applications and when we’re looking to scale that down to a smaller device, to a smaller battery powered device, they’re a little bit too big, they’re rigid, they’re clunky. They also have a lot of moving parts. So, what we’re doing, there’s a new technology coming out of National Renewable Energy Lab they’re we’re employing, and that basically uses a more flexible device to be able to really capture any kinetic energy, not just waves, not just currents, but any motion in the water. It can move and bend and twist with it, and with that we’re actually harnessing electricity to power these small devices.”
Lori Eich will speak Tuesday evening at Mahan Hall on the Lakeside Lab Campus starting at 7 o’clock. The talk is free and open to the public.
