Lakeside Speaker Series to feature a talk by Dr. Kevin Mason July 9

July 08, 2024 Becky Thoreson

(Okoboji)-The Lakeside Speaker Series will feature a talk about The Walk Across Iowa. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

The Lakeside Speaker Series will feature a talk by Dr. Kevin Mason, Associate Professor of History at Waldorf University.
Mason says he’ll discuss his Walk Across Iowa which he completed a couple of years ago. “It took me about 371 miles over 21 days, and I walked from just north of Keokuk on the Mississippi River all the up through Pella and Red Rock through Des Moines, then up through Ft. Dodge to Estherville and then angled my way over there to finish it on the Iowa-Minnesota border at Mini-Wakan on Big Spirit.”
He adds that he’ll also discuss his Notes on Iowa project. “It started with the walk and has now grown into, I don’t know, it’s grown in ways I never anticipated it would where it does a lot of traffic across the social media platforms and websites every day. It grew into a 99 part videography series of minidocumentaries on Iowa State Parks and Public Lands . I mean, I did all of the videos on the Iowa Great Lakes region.”
Dr. Kevin Mason will speak Tuesday evening at 7 o’clock at Mahan Hall on The Lakeside Campus. The talk is free and open to the public.
