Lakeside Lab To Host Natural History Weekend

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– A special event next month at Lakeside Lab will give area residents an opportunity to learn more about things such as how local landscapes are formed; the types of birds that live in the area; and how to identify insects and native plants.

The program, titled “Natural History Weekend”, will be held September 9th through the 11th. It will include daytime field trips and evening lectures with a number of guest speakers. Lee Burras of Iowa State University will explain how glaciers shaped the landscape and Connie Mutel from Iowa City will address how climate and environmental changes have influenced water quality and flooding in Iowa. Field trip leaders Lee Burras, Lee and Nancy Schoenewe, MJ Hatfield and Peter van der Linden will show soils, hydrology, birds, insects and native plants.

The program is designed for adult learners and no background in science is required. A schedule and more information may be obtained by contacting Lakeside Lab at 337-3669…extension 5; or online at www.lakesidelab.org/news.html. Click the link at the top of the page.
