Lakeside Lab Speaker Series Is About To Conclude For The Season

August 01, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Wahpeton)– The speaker series at Lakeside Lab concludes for the season this (Tues.) evening. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has the details…

“The Friends of Lakeside Lab Speaker Series will conclude with a talk by geoscientist Dr. Katherine McCarville. McCarville says she’ll discuss the origin of the rocks used in the construction of Lakeside Lab. “They of course have been brought from far to the north, mostly through the action of glaciers. So during my long and checkered geology career I studied some of those rocks from Canada and norther Minnesota. It is fascinating because there they are, from wherever they are sourced and then brought to Iowa.”
She adds that a short tour will follow her talk. “The optional walk around the lab will give us an opportunity to really look at what stones have been used in the construction. I’ll talk a little bit about the Civilian Conservation Corps, the CCC, built the labs and a little bit about the history of the development of Lakeside Lab, and then we’ll take a look at some of the rocks that are in there.”

The program begins at 7:00 pm this (Tuesday) evening. It is free of charge and open to the public.
