Lakes Community Land Trust Awards Grants

(Spirit Lake)– The board of directors of the Lakes Community Land Trust has awarded more than 19-thousand dollars in grants to three local agencies that provide housing services for the homeless or those in need of supportive housing services.

The funds are through the Iowa State Housing Trust Fund.

Six thousand dollars was awarded to Echo Plus for exterior repair, insulation and residing of one of its client residences located in Spirit Lake.

A separate grant of one thousand dollars was awarded to Echo Plus to improve access in the apartment of a wheelchair bound client.

Echo Plus operates sheltered workshops in Spirit Lake and Estherville and provides housing to many of its clients.

A grant of 6,480-dollars was made to Discovery House for exterior repair and renovation of its facility in Spirit Lake. Discovery House serves as Dickinson county’s only homeless shelter, offering services for people seeking assistance on a path to sobriety.

A third grant of 6,325-dollars was made to Hope Haven to add a fourth bedroom to its “waiver house” in Arnolds Park. It’s one of several Hope Haven operates in Dickinson county, which provide affordable housing to disabled adults while teaching independent living skills.

Hope Haven, based in Rock Valley, operates more than 40 client service locations in three states.
