Lakes Area Man Sentenced For Social Security Fraud

November 22, 2014

(Cedar Rapids)– A 57-year-old Okoboji man who lied to the Social Security Administration about his finances has been given 90 days behind bars.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Rose says William Arneson had pleaded guilty in October.

A news release issued by Rose’s office says Arneson paid nearly $28,000 in restitution at his sentencing last week. He must also serve 100 hours of community service along with three years of supervised release after he gets out of prison.

Arneson acknowledged at his plea hearing that he had concealed information about his finances so he could get more Social Security benefits than his situation warranted.

Arneson is to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on a date yet to be set.
