Lake Park City Council Holds First Reading On Proposed Revisions To Zoning Ordinance

January 09, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Lake Park)– The Lake Park City Council Monday evening approved the first reading on some changes being proposed for the city’s zoning ordinance.

It followed a public hearing that drew comment from several residents concerned over tighter requirements for landscaping in residential areas around Silver Lake. Members of the Planning Zoning Commission say they were recommending the new requirements to help protect the lake and lake shore properties.

The revisions are modeled from a similar ordinance in Wahpeton. But several residents who spoke at Monday’s Lake Park City Council meeting said the new regulations being proposed are too restrictive. Several city council members agreed and after approving the first reading of the proposed ordinance revision, sent it back to the Planning and Zoning Commission to address some of the concerns brought up at the hearing.
