Lake Park City Council Hears Plans For Housing Development

April 09, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Lake Park)– The Lake Park City Council Monday evening heard some preliminary plans for a major housing development. Developer Chris Lindgren of TSD Construction told the council it would include 65 lots on the city’s northeast side. He says the goal is to keep them as affordable as possible…

“Small patio homes, kind of a starter/finisher home for new families, three bedroom. That’s kind of our target market, is entry, exit level homes. For projects that we would do, if we got into a bunch of them, obviously all of the lots are for sale. We want to fill this thing up as fast as we can. But we would try to utilize the Affordable Housing Tax Program to help keep that gap down so we can sell those houses and get people into them.”

Mayor Matt Carstensen says the city looks forward to continuing talks with Lindgren…

“We’ve said all along, and it doesn’t make any difference whether you talk about a larger community or a smaller community, you know part of the building block is housing. If you don’t have the housing, you can’t bring people to town, you can’t grow your school, you can’t grow your main street. So yeah, housing is definitely a very important part of growth of any community.”

Carstensen says to what extent the city might get involved in the project isn’t known just yet…

“You know, we’re still in the initial planning stages and initial discussions as to what the city’s contribution may be. We really haven’t discussed in detail yet what Chris is expecting or what we might be able to put forward as part of our propelling this project forward.”

Lindgren said he will come back to another council meeting in the near future to further talk about a possible agreement with the city.
