Lake Park City Council Decides To Seek Quotes On Study Into Possible Fire, Police & EMS Facility

January 14, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Lake Park)– The Lake Park City Council Monday evening directed city staff to get a cost estimate from engineering firms on a study into a possible new facility that would house the Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and Police Department. Lake Park Fire Chief Brandon Ehret says the study would look into several factors…

“It sounds to me like they’re going to look at possible land, an area for the building, whether or not to acquire what used to be former city property. Again size and scope, construction materials, various, you know, in aspect to the building itself I guess.”

Ehret says the existing fire station is showing its age and deficiencies…

“The current facility is roughly about 45 years old so it’s got some age. We’ve had some building deterioration. Like I said the size of the apparatus, the trucks themselves are getting bigger. It’s getting harder to find trucks that are the size to fit there. The space to be able to have training and meetings efficiently has gotten a lot smaller over the years, and then just the location with the fire station being right out on the street it’s hard to maneuver vehicles around, get them in and out of the station.”

The Lake Park ambulance is currently headquartered out of its own garage. The director of the ambulance service told the city council Monday evening they will be getting a larger rig in the next couple of years or so and that the current facility won’t be big enough to house it.

The council will review quotes for the study and decide whether or not to proceed with it at their next meeting.
