Lake Park City Council Considers Events/Business Coordinator; Awards Bid On Fire Station/EMS Study

February 11, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Lake Park)– The possible creation of a City Events and Business Coordinator was a topic of discussion at Monday evening’s Lake Park City Council meeting. Mayor Matt Carstensen tells KUOO news the council expressed some interest in further pursuing the matter…

“As a council obviously we want to see Lake Park grow and one of the ways to do that is to promote some of the things I just talked about: businesses and events and let people know what Lake Park has to offer. Is it a good fit for the climate that we’re in right now? Yeah. Is it something that we as a council can maybe participate in and just be a part of that organization whether it be financially or whether it just be being a member in that organization? Not absolutely sure at this point but I do know that everybody had a positive response to it last night so we are definitely investigating it further.”

Carstensen says funding for the position will be a part of the ongoing discussion. In other business, Carstensen says the council awarded a bid to Beck Engineering of Spirit Lake for a space needs and site study for a combined fire station/EMS facility…

“The current building that we are in, that the Fire Department is in, was built in the ’70’s, has had a little remodeling done to it but not much. Where the ambulance is housed is the former fire station built, you know, probably in the ’50’s. So it’s definitely time that we look at updating those things.”

He says the site study will take several factors into consideration…

“You know when it comes to placing a building like this or an emergency services building, you obviously want good access to good roads and a direct path to wherever you need to go.”

Carstensen says it’s uncertain as to when the study will be completed. An update was also given on the city’s involvement in the Hometown Pride program. We’ll have more on that in upcoming newscasts.
