Kyle Ricke Sentenced To Life In Prison In Fatal Shooting Of Algona Police Officer Kevin Cram

August 21, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Algona)– The man found guilty in the fatal shooting of Algona police officer Kevin Cram has been sentenced to life in prison. A Dickinson county jury convicted Kyle Ricke of 1st degree murder following a trial last month. The life prison sentence is mandatory under Iowa law for anyone found guilty of 1st degree murder.

Ricke is also not eligible for parole or probation. He was also ordered to pay $150,000 to the widow of officer Cram.

Sentencing was held after a judge denied Ricke’s request for a new trial. Ricke’s attorney claimed there was a lack of evidence to prove there was pre-meditation. Prosecutors said the simple fact Ricke had a dangerous weapon proves otherwise.
